UK packaging federation criticises food waste target

The UK's food waste reduction target has been slammed as "minuscule" by the British Packaging Federation.rnAccording to Dick Searle, the chief executive of the federation, a "greater environmental balance" is needed between packaging and food waste. Searle was reacting to the announcement last week that UK supermarkets, brands and manufacturers have committed to an industry-wide food waste reduction objective of 155,000 tonnes by 2010, against a 2008rnbaseline. This means a two per cent cut in food waste.
