Belgium is facing the threat of a daily fine topping €60,000 for its failure to apply EU rules on waste water treatment after the European Commission referred the country back to the EU's Court of Justice (ECJ) last week.rnThe Commission said on 24 June that it was sending Belgium back to the ECJ and had asked the Court to impose a lump-sum fine of more than €15 million and a daily penalty payment of nearly €62,000.
