Parliament calls for specific biowaste directive

The European Commission, if it has steadfastedly refused to do so up until now, should propose a specific directive on biowaste by the end of 2010. That was the message of MEPs last week, in adopting the report of Spanish centre right MEP Jose Manuel Fernandes on the Commission Green Paper on the management of biowaste in the EU.rnMEPs said that a separate directive, instead of putting provisions on biowaste in existing waste legislation, would offer greater clarity, better monitoring and enforcement of implementation and legal certainty in this area.
