MEPS slam small ECHA dangerous substance list

MEPs from the European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee have once again raised concerns about the small number of highly dangerous substances on the EU candidate list for authorisation under the REACH chemicals regulation.rnA delegation raised the concerns during an 8-9 April visit to the European Chemicals Agencyrn(ECHA) in Helsinki, the Committee heard last week in a report back from ECHA liaison MEP Satu Hassi. Hassi said that there are probably around 500 substances that are not intermediates (chemicals used in a process but that are not present in the final substance or product) and which were known to meet the criteria for classification as Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) and therefore inclusion on the candidate list for authorisation.
