MEPs call for Tobin tax to tackle climate change

The European Commission and Council should look at how a global financial tax or Tobin tax (on financial transactions - FTT tax) could help developing countries combat climate change, MEPs said last Wednesday (10 March).rnThis tax, mainly proposed to ensure that the financial industry pays for the damage caused by the economic crisis and to contribute to the EU budget should be a worldwide tax, MEPs said. However if this proved unachievable, then the EU could consider "going it alone".
