Parliamentary turf war over offshore oil and gas report

A parliamentary turf war is running over the right to be lead committee in producing a report on offshore oil and gas regulation. The European Parliament's Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee (ENVI) is challenging the decision of the Conference of Committee Chairs to give the lead to the Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE). Political group representatives - co-ordinators - last month unanimously decided to mount the challenge when they discussed the proposal which regulates the safety of offshore oil and gas prospection, exploration and production activities.
