Phosphate restrictions to cover dishwasher detergents in EU trialogue deal

Restrictions on the use of phosphates in household laundry detergents are to be extended to cover dishwasher detergents in a deal thrashed out at EU level.The European Commission originally proposed the tight limits only for laundry detergents from 1 January 2013, but British Liberal MEP Bill Newton Dunn won backing from MEPs for amendments extending this to dishwasher products from 2015.
