Study finds EU biofuels as carbon-intensive as petrol

Biofuels made from vegetable oils release as much carbon into the atmosphere in Europe as fossil fuels, according to a new study carried out by the University of Leicester in the UK. The research on greenhouse gas emissions from oil palm plantations, published last week, calculated that carbon emissions from biofuels are more than 50 per cent higher than previously believed.
