The Albanian parliament has passed legislation limiting waste imports despite opposition from President Bamir Topi, the socialist party and environmentalists, according to a 4 November Reuters report. The controversial law outlaws the import of toxic waste into the country but allows 50 non toxic waste flows to be imported. Hundred of Albanians protested outside Parliament as the MPs debated the bill on 3 November. Topi and the opposition had attacked the bill, stating that importing waste contradicted the goal of minimising and managing waste created in Albania.
