US: NRDC renews challenge to FDA delay on BPA ban petition

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) filed a lawsuit on 19 August alleging that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has taken too long to respond to the group's 21 October 2008 petition to ban bisphenol A (BPA) in food packaging and other materials that come into contact with food.Its plea comes shortly after the US Environmental Protection Agency asked for comment on how to go about toxicity and environmental testing for the controversial food contact chemical (see next article).
