Northern Ireland: Plastic bag fee likely to start at 13 pence

Consumers in Northern Ireland look set to pay at least 13 pence (the equivalent of the original 15 cent tax across the border in the Republic) when the plastic "shopping" bag tax is introduced in April 2013, the province's environment minister Alex Attwood has said. The public consultation on introducing a plastic bag tax in Northern Ireland began on 20 July. Running until October, it asks people to suggest how much they feel the bags should cost.
