Commission releases long awaited 'R1 Guidelines' for municipal waste incinerators

The European Commission has finally published its "R1 Guidelines" on the calculation method for the energy efficiency (R1) formula for municipal waste incinerators under the revised Waste Framework Directive. Speaking to EE&PL last week, Jan Manders from the Confederation of European Waste to energy plants (CEWEP) said his organisation, that was heavily involved in the process, was "generally happy" with the end result, released on 1 July.
