UK food and farming report sparks strong response

The newly launched UK government Foresight report on the future of food and farming has sparked strong reactions from industry and food NGOs (non-governmental organisations), in particular for its stance on technologies like genetic modification (GM). The report, commissioned by the government to assist policymakers attempting to address competing pressures in the food system, and written by 40 scientists in 35 countries, takes a detailed look at the challenges between now and 2050 to feed a growing population, and concludes that GM and cloning should not be ruled out as tools.
