Food waste prevention, not increasing production, 'key to food security'

Preventing food waste and encouraging self sufficient local food systems will be key to feeding the world in the future, the US Worldwatch Institute has concluded in its latest report "State of the World 2011: Innovations that Nourish the Planet". With food security high on the world agenda, particularly in light of recent food price rises, the report provides a roadmap for increased agricultural investment and more efficient ways to alleviate global hunger and poverty by highlighting innovations that are already working on the ground.
