Vilsack plans to revive USDA biotech advisory committee

The United States Department of Agriculture is to revive its Advisory Committee on Biotechnology and 21st Century Agriculture (AC21), which went out of business soon after President Obama took office, US Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced in the Federal Register last week. Launched in 2003, the AC21 grappled with a series of thorny biotech questions posed by President Bush's various agriculture secretaries, including crop coexistence and transgenic animals. The panel's charter expired in February 2009 and was not renewed.
