MEP Leinen hits out at EU refusal to pay Brussels' climate levy

German Socialist MEP Jo Leinen has hit out at the EU's request for an exemption from a regional tax on the energy consumption of buildings. He wrote on his website the day before World Environment Day [6 June] that it was, "completely unacceptable that the European Union requires its member states to take specific measures to fight climate change, but refuses to pay the climate change levy for the energy-consumption of its own institutions' buildings to the Region of Brussels."
