Parliament agrees energy efficiency directive compromise before industry committee vote

The European Parliament's political groups have reached an agreement on the energy efficiency directive (EED) ahead of the 28 February vote in the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, an MEP said last week. This vote was set to be a nightmare - given some 1,800 amendments on the table. According to German Christian Democrat Markus Pieper, the groups agreed to give member states "more flexibility" to achieve the efficiency target of 20 per cent by 2020.
