Denmark offers greater freedom to ban GM crops

Denmark, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, last week proposed allowing member states to ban the cultivation of biotech crops on environmental, socio-economic or moral grounds. Governments would be able to seek an agreement with the applicant allowing them to veto production of the GM crop in all or part of their territory, even if it has been approved at EU level, sources revealed last week.
