Member states could be offered greater freedom to ban GM crops

EU countries would be allowed to block the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops on their own environmental, socio-economic or moral grounds, under a proposal tabled by the Danish Presidency last week.Governments would be able to seek an agreement with an applicant allowing them to veto the production of the GM crop in all or part of their territory - even if it has been approved at EU level, sources revealed.
