Hungary toughens up rules on waste incineration

New rules on technical conditions and operating rules sent to the European Commission late last month reveal that Hungary wants to toughen up on incineration. As Hungary explained in its notification, received by the Commission on 25 October and on "standstill," a three-month period for comment and/or objection until 27 January, the new draft decree specifies "detailed regulations pertaining to the approval of waste incineration plants and co-incineration plants, conditions pertaining to their operation, rules pertaining to air pollutant emissions, their limits and compliance therewith, wastewater discharge from exhaust gas cleaning units, their limits and rules pertaining to compliance therewith, and lays down rules and technical requirements for the verification of emissions, measurement methods, evaluation of measurement results and abnormal operation."
