The amount of waste deposed creates issues both in Hungary and worldwide. The tendencies of the past and present are getting more and more notable from not only the perspective of environmental protection but energetics as well. In order to handle the situation the EU came up with regulations and directives. Waste incineration (as a commonly applied waste to energy method) provides an adequate alternative as presented in a SWOT analysis. Using the information revealed, dioxin and carbon dioxide emissions are observed. The former is compared with cigarette smoking, the latter with the emission of gas fueled heating systems in Hungarian households. The essay also determines a gate fee for a concept waste incineration plant in Budapest that would guarantee a net present value equaling zero for the end of the lifetime.
