CoR backs landfill ban and deposits to cut plastic waste

The Committee of the Regions (CoR) has backed the call by its rapporteur on the European Commission's green paper on plastics waste British Conservative Linda Gillham to ban free plastic bags and the landfilling of plastic waste. Gillham, who presented her opinion to CoR on 8 October, also said that developing deposit and return schemes "on a case-by-case basis" could be a good way to fight plastic waste in the environment.
