EAA calls to improve European waste rules

The European Aluminium Association (EAA) has called on the European Commission to "improve the EU waste rules" and boost the availability of aluminium scrap for the European recycling industry.Responding to the public consultation on the review of European waste management targets, the EAA pointed out that the sector is already the European recycling champion with end-of-life recycling rates above 90 per cent in transport and construction and close to 70 per cent for beverage cans.The situation can still be improved, however, through more ambitious targets, improved collection systems and sorting infrastructure and technologies, better and more harmonised reporting methods, more efficient monitoring of scrap exports and the use of the most efficient Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) available, it said on 10 September, the day the consultation closed.
