Committee of the Regions votes for ambitious waste targets

The EU Committee of the Regions (CoR) has endorsed an ambitious report on the upcoming review of the EU's waste legislation by Belgian rapporteur (draftsman) Michel Lebrun (see EE&PL May 8, 2013, p9-11). Voting on 3 July, the CoR's plenary overwhelmingly backed Lebrun's call for packaging targets including 70 per cent for plastics and 80 per cent for glass, metals, paper and board by 2020. It agreed that to achieve success, targets must reflect the differing levels of progress and resources available in member states and local authorities.
