British campaign group This is Rubbish (TiR) is calling for industry to face mandatory food waste audits in a bid to cut down wastage during food production. In a 15 May statement on the report, 'Counting What Matters', TiR says that households are usually blamed for the UK's food waste mountain, "but the reality is that the food industry is responsible for generating over half of the 18-20 million tonnes of food wasted every year."
