Claim too much precious metal waste being lost

With the UK about to review its implementation of the waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) directive, one organisation has urged the government to stop exporting precious metals contained in WEEE. In a recent report, Betts Environmental, the environmental arm of previous metal company the Stephen Betts group, claimed that the UK has the infrastructure and expertise to recover precious metals from WEEE, yet instead exports them to Asia. If not, the precious metals-bearing materials, having failed to be recovered by the waste management industry, end up in landfills.
