A Greek ban on the cultivation of Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) corn, MON810, is not justified on scientific grounds, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) announced last week.rnIn March, the Commission asked EFSA to assess documents that Greece submitted to back up a ban on MON 810 cultivation introduced as an emergency measure under the so-called safeguard clause (Article 18 of Directive 2002/53/EC) which allows national restrictions based on new scientific evidence of a risk to human health or the environment.
