Ministers agree to promote climate and environment in the Mediterranean region

Ministers signed a Declaration last week committing them to tackle the growing climate and environmental challenges facing the Mediterranean region. It is the first time that climate change has been discussed at a ministerial level in the UfM (Union for the Mediterranean). The Ministers acknowledged the urgent need to address the impact of climate change on the Mediterranean region and to shift towards sustainable consumption and production patterns for a green and low emission economy at the 13 May ministerial meeting on environment and climate change. They highlighted the cross-sectorial nature of environment and climate change challenges and the importance of fostering growth and job creation, while ensuring better quality of life and a sustainable future.
