MEPs repeat calls for mandatory lobby register

MEPs have once again called for the European Parliament-European Commission joint transparency register for lobbyists to be made compulsory as well as other provisions to push interest groups to make their relations with the EU more transparent. The call came in a report from Italian Socialist Roberto Gualtieri that Parliament's Constitutional Affairs Committee approved unanimously on 18 March. The report endorses an agreement reached by Parliament and the Commission, Gualtieri explained in commenting on the vote in a Committee statement, adding that this was "an important step towards greater transparency of the EU institutions."
