EU climate and energy package criticised from all sides

The European Commission wants the EU to cut its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 40 per cent by 2030, compared to 1990 levels.The EU should also aim to source 27 per cent of its energy from renewable sources by 2030, proposes the Commission, in a new climate and energy framework published on 22 January.The third goal in the package is for the EU to reduce energy use by around 20-25 per cent from projected consumption levels - but no specific target has been set.
