Greek Presidency to push for progress on plastic bags

With maritime policy a big issue for the Greek Presidency, combating marine litter will also be a priority in the Presidency's six months in office - with minister for Environment, Energy and Climate Change, Ioannis Maniatis, notably telling last month's Environment Council that efforts would be made to advance the European Commission's proposal to reduce plastic bags. Greece took the reins of the rotating Presidency of the EU Council of Ministers from Lithuania last week (1 January), with Athens to chair Council meetings and guide EU policy until the end of June.
