State On Target To Reach 2020 Goalfor Curbing Greenhouse Gases, Report Says

Philadelphla-timely implementation of existing programs in New Jersey's transportation and energy sectors likely will enable the state to meet its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, according to a draft report released Dec. 15.rnThe report was prepared by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to comply with a requirement of the Global Warming Response Act, a 2007 statute that set short- and long-term targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions and directed the DEP to develop a plan for achieving them (38 ER 1537, 7/13/07).rnThe draft report with recommendations on legislative, regulatory, and other measures needed to attain the 2020 emissions target was issued nearly six months after the June 30 statutory deadline.
