Lansing, Mich.-The three Detroit automakers made formal pleas for federal aid Dec.2,with Ford Motor Co.,General Motors Corp.,and Chrysler LLC pledging greater efforts at developing fuel-efficient vehicles as part of their business plans.rnGM said it is asking Congress to approve a loan of up to $12 billion to provide it with funds through the end of 2009,with an initial infusion of $4 billion this month to "ensure minimum liquidity levels" through the end of 2008.The company said it wants a $6 billion line of credit in addition to the bridge loan,"should a severe market downturn persist."
