Without a "comprehensive integrated approach to long-term stewardship" of remediated sites that are unmarketable, taxpayers will ultimately pay a price for maintaining the sites, according to a speaker Nov. 18 at the Brownfields 2009 conference.rnMarc Weinreich, vice president and general counsel of the consulting firm Greenfield Environmental Trust Group Inc., outlined what he called a "new paradigm" for addressing the problem.rnHe dubbed the sites that are cleaned up, have institutional controls in place, but are not marketable, as "yel-lowfields." He said they were browned by historical use, are not green, and one must proceed with caution toward them.
