EPA Seeks Comments on New Permit For Animal Feeding Operations in Idaho

The Environmental Protection Agency will hold public hearings in December on a new National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System general permit for confined animal feeding operations in Idaho, an agency official said Nov. 17. The major change in the proposed permit is that operators must submit a nutrient management plan to EPA for review before a permit can be issued, said Mike Lidgard, manager of the NPDES unit at the agency's Region 10 office in Seattle. The permit will regulate discharges to surface waters from most Idaho feedlots and dairies, including those on tribal lands.
