Benjamin Cardin (D-Md.) released details of draft legislation Sept. 8 that would provide new enforcement tools and funding for states aimed at cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay.rnThe Chesapeake Bay Restoration Act of 2009 would authorize more than $1.5 billion in grants over five years for state and local governments in the Chesapeake Bay watershed to restore the bay's health and set a firm deadline of May 2020 for all restoration efforts to be in place, according to a statement from Cardin's office.rnSpokeswoman Sue Walitsky told BNA that Cardin plans to introduce the legislation by the end of September.
