Industrial polluters will face increased fines of up to $25,000 per violation for failure to comply with state cleanup regulations, under legislation signed into law June 30 by Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri (R).rnThe new law (H 5061 Sub A and S 0050) will create a penalty provision for any party who fails to assess, remediate, or take any action as required by the state under the Department of Environmental Management's (DEM) Industrial Property Remediation and Reuse Act.
