Bloomberg, City Council Leader Propose Energy-Efficiency Measures for Buildings

A six-point legislative and jobs development plan to increase the energy efficiency of New York City's government, commercial, and residential buildings was proposed April 22 by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I) and City Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn (D).rnThe plan, consisting of four local legislative proposals and two city program initiatives, was developed as part of a broad sustainability blueprint, PlaNYC, issued by Bloomberg in April 2007 (38 ER 991, 4/27/07).rnBacked by business, labor, and environmental leaders, the energy efficiency measures are intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from buildings in the city by 5 percent and are projected to create 19,000 construction jobs.
