摘要

There still is hope for a global compact on carbon dioxide emissions, in spite of persistent disagreement among key countries over critical issues, U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern said in Beijing Oct. 21.rnStern was in China for meetings with his Chinese counterpart, Xie Zhenhua, President Hu Jintao's Special Representative on Climate Change and Vice Chairman of China's National Development and ReformrnCommission. Stern said he had productive discussions on critical issues, but he did not reveal specifics about what was discussed. Stern said he believes political momentum is building ahead of the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP-16) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which begins Nov. 29 in Cancun, Mexico.
