TVA Eyes Future Energy Strategies With Shift From Coal to Nuclear Power

The Tennessee Valley Authority said Sept. 16 it expects to expand its reliance on nuclear power, and it has the potential to overtake coal as the authority's leading energy source.rnTVA's 20-year draft integrated resource plan includes an evaluation of a series of potential economic and regulatory scenarios, as well as the possibility of "game-changing" technological advances. That evaluation will enable TVA to determine how to continue to provide electricity to approximately 9 million people in seven Southeastern states. Five major planning strategies-or business options-were considered, and the authority said it will further evaluate three of those strategies.
