Three companies that own three inactive coal mines in western Virginia and a Pennsylvania coal mine operator have reached a $75 million settlement in a state lawsuit that alleged the operator illegally dumped more than 2 billion gallons of contaminated wastewater in tunnels and other old mining spaces over a 10-year period, plaintiffs attorneys said June 24 (Yukon Pocahontas Coal Co. v. Consolidation Coal Co., Va. Cir. Ct., No. CL04-91, settlement 5/31/10).
