EPA to Extend Spill Rule Compliance Date, Issue Final Rule Exempting Milk Containers

The Environmental Protection Agency "in the near future" plans to extend the compliance date for specific facilities in a final rule revising EPA's Spill, Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) regulations, an agency official told a dairy industry group.Responding to a letter written by the National Milk Products Federation, Mathy Stanislaus, EPA assistant administrator for solid waste and emergency response, wrote June 9 that EPA also is working "as expeditiously as possible" on issuing a final rule that would exempt milk storage containers from certain SPCC requirements.
