Trucking Industry Criticizes Legislation To Authorize Emissions Controls at Ports

Trucking industry and labor representatives sparred at a House hearing May 5 over a requirement by the Port of Los Angeles that truck drivers servicing the port be employed by a trucking company, part of a plan to reduce air pollution.rnRobert Digges, vice president and chief counsel of the American Trucking Associations, said the Los Angeles plan would exclude thousands of independent truck owner-operators from using the ports and cost thousands of jobs.rnDigges spoke at a hearing of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.
