Air Board Beefs Up Fuel Standards To Account for Energy-Intensive Sources

Sacramento, Calif.-The California Air Resources Board on Dec. 16 strengthened its low-carbon fuel standard to better account for the increased use of crude oil derived from energy-intensive sources like oil sands. Adopted on a unanimous vote, the amendment was among several changes the agency's governing board made to the 2009 regulation developed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation fuels 10 percent by 2020 (40 ER 1018, 5/1/09).
