Five Chemicals Added to List of Substitutes For Ozone-Depleting Substances, EPA Says

The Environmental Protection Agency has approved five new substances as acceptable alternatives for ozone-depleting refrigerants, fire suppressants, and solvent cleaners in a notice to be published Oct. 4. The substances are being approved for use under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP) program, which determines acceptable substitutes and transitional substitutes for ozone-depleting substances such as Freon~® and other chlorofluorocarbons. The program was developed under Section 612 of the Clean Air Act, which requires EPA to evaluate alternatives to ozone-denletine substances.
