Obama to Announce Model Year 2017-2025 Fuel Standards for Cars, Light-Duty Trucks

President Obama is scheduled to announce proposed new fuel economy standards July 29 for cars and light-duty trucks in model years 2017 through 2025, the White House said July 27. Consumer and environmental advocates told BNA they expect the president to increase the corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standard for cars and trucks to 54.5 miles per gallon by 2025 while allowing light trucks to increase their fuel economy at a slower rate than cars.
