Houston-a Louisiana refinery executive pleaded guilty July 6 to two counts of negligent endangerment that allowed the release of hazardous pollutants into the air, placing individuals in imminent danger (United States v. La., No. 2:ll-cr-00130, 7/6/11) In a plea hearing in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Byron Hamilton, vice president and general manager of the Pelican Refinery in Lake Charles, acknowledged that his negligence caused the release of hydrogen sulfide, benzene, toluene, and other hazardous substances.
