EPA Seeks More Environmental Analysis Of Keystone Oil Sands Pipeline Project

The Environmental Protection Agency is objecting to the draft supplemental environmental impact statement for the 1,700-mile Keystone XL oil sands pipeline because it contains "insufficient information" to fully assess the project's effects. In comments filed June 6 on the $7 billion U.S.Canadian pipeline project, Cynthia Giles, EPA's assistant administrator for enforcement and compliance assurance, said the State Department needs to conduct further analysis of oil spill risks to groundwater, alternative pipeline routes, greenhouse gas emissions, and effects on wetlands and migratory birds.
