Significant legal, regulatory, and liability issues must be addressed for the offshore carbon capture and sequestration industry to become fully viable, an ExxonMobil Corp. official told an Offshore Technology Conference panel May 4. Ruth Ivory-Moore, at attorney in ExxonMobil's Environmental and Safety Law Group, said a structure must be in place with liability issues settled before entities or companies could be encouraged to "jump into" carbon capture and sequestration.
