Biomass Advocates Push EPA to Make Proposed Permitting Exemption Permanent

Power companies and advocates of using biomass to produce energy urged the Environmental Protection Agency at an April 5 public hearing to make permanent a proposed three-year exemption that would excuse facilities burning biomass from a requirement to control greenhouse gas emissions. Biomass advocates said burning waste products from furniture production, grass, and other biomass fuel is essentially carbon neutral because those carbon dioxide emissions would be released through the natural decay process anyway.
